After the fall of the Giants, when the Humans had suddenly lost their masters and protectors, they had to fend for themselves, taking to agriculture and animal husbandry. Especially the latter is not an easy undertaking - beasts have to eat every day, summer and winter - so they started creating protective deities: Kurikups for cattle and Triol for goats and sheep. In a world still permeated with residual magic from the wars Shilen and the Giants had fought against the gods, those deities soon took on a life of their own. They evolved from pure figments of imagination into real beings.

Everything went well, the gods got their sacrifices and in return made sure that the cows calved and the ewes lambed. Then came Emperor Shunaiman with his religious reforms, declaring the worship of all other gods except Einhasad as heterodoxy, persecuting their followers with inquisition and bloody crusades. While the Children of Shilen held on to their old faith, Kurikups and Triol rapidly lost followers. Apart from the purges, this also had practical reasons. The magicians at the Ivory Tower had in the meantime developed all sorts of healing potions which made animal husbandry much easier - no more need for supernatural help. And for those people who did have a religious inclination, worshipping one single goddess who took care of everything was much cheaper than making donations and burning incense for several gods.

Of course Kurikups and Triol were not happy; gradually they developed positively evil character traits. While Kurikups became a follower of the renegade magician Beleth, hoping to regain some of his old power in this way, Triol made a pact with Necromancer Hardin, who promised to create for him a basis in Rune Township. The major obstacle Hardin was faced with in this task was the von Hellmann family, staunch supporters of the royal house and incorruptible upholders of law and order. Hardin's opportunity came with the war against Gracia, where the Kingdom of Elmore fought at the side, or rather under the leadership of Aden against the invaders. After King Amadeo Cadmus of Aden had defeated the armies of Gracia in a decisive battle near Giran, he forced not only a peace treaty on King Paris of Gracia, but also on King Astor of Elmore.

That treaty, the humiliation of Elmore not being able to deal with the invader by itself, threw King Astor in a deep depression. Hardin now approached Alfred von Hellmann, head of the family, and had long talks with him every day. He convinced Alfred and his eldest son Eilhalder that they should stage an insurrection to shock King Astor out of his stupor or, failing that, take over the throne themselves. The von Hellmanns had already become somewhat disenchanted with Astor. They decided that their loyalty should lie with the crown and not with the king. More meetings followed, clansmen were invited to join the cabal. But then the conspirators were betrayed - it is everybody's guess by whom - and slain by the royal troops in von Hellmann Forest, now known as "Forest of the Dead".

Now Hardin was free to act. Together with the friends he had made in Elmore's aristrocracy and clergy (the so-called "Benandati Cartell") he summoned the pagan god Triol, building a vast temple for him in the heart of Rune Hill, directly under the Einhasad temple. As mentioned above, Triol had in the meantime developed a downright evil character, demanding human sacrifices in exchange for the power he gave to his worshippers. Ultimately power is the only thing those people are interested in, and this is also the reason why they enjoy those sacrifices so much: by killing the victims they exercise power over life and death.

7) Although Dr. Chaos was brilliant, he was overshadowed by Master Toma, the inventor of the Instant Teleportation Device.

For his device Master Toma needed Starstones as energy supply, and Dr. Chaos designed for him a huge golem that would dig up those Starstones at the site of Pavel the Giant's laboratory.

8) For some unfathomable reason Dr. Chaos ran away with his blueprint before "Big One" could be built, whereupon he was in absentia expelled from the Black Anvil Guild. The affair was resting for some time, but recently there has been an influx of machines, the "Horrifying Golem Army", at the ruins of the ancient Giant laboratory. Yumi sends you back to Wendy to find out more.

9a) If you have asked about Wendy in step 5), the golem at first is quite friendly, but when you then click on "I want to know how Dr. Chaos controlled his golems" and tell her that you are acting on behalf of a Dwarven guild, she tells you to get lost.

10a) Try talking to Wendy again. You then get a whole list of questions you can ask her.

11a) The interesting question is what Wendy experienced when she woke up. To help her memory she needs a Starstone from a box nearby.

<

12a) The Parts Box is right behind you as you talk to Wendy.

13a) The dialogue screen says "Strike the box". Don't do this! Just click on the blue link and you will obtain a Starstone. Return with it to Wendy.

14a) Give Wendy the Starstone. The former secretary needs some time to think (i.e. you have to start the conversation anew), then she remembers that in the age of the Giants, when Pavel's laboratory went operative, she was in charge of transportation and management of materials while her friend Atlanta (another automaton) was in charge of controlling various golems. Go back to Yumi and read on at step 15).

9b) If you have answered truthfully in step 5), you arrive directly at the list of questions in step 10a). Read on from there.

9c) If you have offered an excuse in step 5), be prepared to meet trouble.

10c) Out of empty air Wendy's Guardian, an aggressive lvl 46 golem, suddenly appears. It has strong P. Def., but with a good weapon this should be no problem for a level 49 character. (This is for the Gracia Epilogue version).

11c) After you have defeated the golem, talk to Wendy again. When you ask her about Dr. Chaos' golem control method, she mentions electric radio waves. Return to Yumi.

15) When you talk to Yumi about the relationship between Wendy and Master Toma, nothing much happens. Dwarves know very little about Maphr, the goddess of earth and wealth, so the automaton Wendy can't be expected to know much about her masters.

16) When you talk about Atlanta controlling the golems, Yumi has the idea of tracking that being via the radio signals it sends to the machines and gives you an Electric Wave Detector.

17) The entity you are looking for is sitting right in the central courtyard of the Archaic Laboratory. By just running around with your Detector you won't find it and only get in trouble with the golems infesting the area. The one and only safe way is to follow the circle road that leads to Wendy and then enter the Laboratory from the east. Head straight for the inner courtyard; the golems in the side wings are lvl 50+ (in Freya lvl 72+), aggressive and multiple HP.

When you come close to the Suspicious-Looking Pile of Stones in the center of the courtyard, your Detector will react.

18) Talk to the Pile of Stones like to a normal NPC, then return to Yumi.

19) When you tell Yumi about the symbol of the Giants you found on the Pile of Stones ("Titans" is just a different word for "Giants"), she realizes that the "Stones" are the remains of a golem resp. automaton used by those Genesis Creatures. With a Starstone as energy source it should be possible to switch it on again.

Now there are two ways this can go. The expensive but time-saving option is to click on "Why don't we ask Wendy?".

20a) In this case Yumi sends you to the former secretary to get a Starstone. What the quest screen says about "giving the stack of stones to Wendy" is absolute nonsense. Ignore it.

21a) Wendy does not simply give you a Starstone. You have to purchase it from her for 3000 adena.

Click on "Take the deal" and you get your Starstone. Now return to Yumi and continue at step 22).

20b) If you click in step 19) on "I really don't have any particular idea about it", Yumi sends you back to Head Blacksmith Newyear in Schuttgart. Again, what the quest screen says about "bringing the stack of stones to the Dwarf Guild" is absolute nonsense. You have to bring Yumi's letter to Newyear.

21b) Newyear is still in his Blacksmith Workshop.

When you show him Yumi's letter he will give you a Starstone for free. Return with it to Yumi.

22) Yumi tells you to take the Starstone and place it near the Suspicious-Looking Pile of Stones in the Archaic Laboratory.

23) When you place the Starstone, the former golem manager Atlanta (that's the name of the Pile of Stones) comes alive and rewards you with 410,358 exp as well as 32,060 SP (in Freya 1,846,611 exp and 144,270 SP). When you are level 50 you can talk to the Pile of Stones again and pick up "Pavel's Research". But for that quest, which will be lvl 70 in Freya, you better bring help.

3) As it is often the case in such quests, Newyear's description of how to find Yumi is misleading. The Dwarven encampment is not "in the heart of the Ruins of Pavel" but at their southern edge. The Ruins themselves are infested with aggressive (in Freya passive) golems, so I would recommend that you do not head straight south but take the eastern rim road to the location marked on your map.

4) Yumi hints at problems with a mad scientist and his Horrifying Golem Army. For the time being she rewards you with 76,960 exp and 5793 SP (in Freya 346,320 exp and 26,069). You can either pick up the "Influx of Machines" quest from Collector Gutenhagen, the bearded guy right next to Yumi, or you can come back when you are level 49 and pick up from her "Resurrection of an Old Manager". Few records of the Merchants of Mammon exist, but it is known that they recognize Maphr as their goddess while believing mainly in the accumulation of wealth. They are keen observers of the sky and use the mathematics derived from Maphr's Absolute Geometry to predict the course of the stars. But while the other Dwarves use astronomy mainly for navigation and determining the proper time for sowing seeds, the Mammon Guild believes that the future of wealth and business flows with the movements of the stars. Of course this is pure superstition, and therefore they were early on expelled from the Dwarven Kingdom.

Surprisingly, or maybe not so surprisingly, this guild survives even to this day. There are at least two Merchants of Mammon regularly visiting the Necropoli and selling to those adventurers who are lucky enough to meet them various items to strengthen their bodies and their equipment. In addition to that there are two Blacksmiths of Mammon, travelling between the Catacombs, who put the finishing touches on the better kind of armor. And there are the Black Marketeers of Mammon lurking in hidden corners of the bigger cities, selling wares that are otherwise not available, requiring payment in ancient adena, which has nominally the same worth as the modern currency but is privately traded at a much higher rate.

With their armor of white metal and wings like razor-sharp blades they were of a truly majestic, breathtaking appearance. Strictly speaking, the Nephilim can be considered as magical entities that were created by merging the pure spirit of light with the bodies of Humans. The Nephilim Army consists of soldiers, officers and priests, corresponding to the three sections in the Lilim forces, their designated enemy. Apart from that there is a sub-species of Nephilim called "Gigants", soldiers of lesser ability who assist them in battle. The Nephilim were part of the Imperial Army, and persons who were not at least knighted, commoners or slaves, or soldiers whose body was not absolutely perfect, maybe due to some battle injury, were not qualified to join that elite unit. But having obtained Anakim blessing, the Gigants were able to act as support troops in Shunaiman crusade against the Children of Shilen and anybody else who was considered as pagan by the Emperor.

When human beings were transformed into Nephilim and Gigants they completely lost their own identity and became mere battle machines intent on nothing but destruction, being under the absolute control of Emperor Shunaiman. Executing every order of their commander without hesitation or even thought, they were an army of soldiers who were ready to jump into battle at any time, extremely useful tools for squashing any opposition and maintaining order in the Empire.
The Lilim were created by Lilith, Holy Mother of Darkness during the time of Emperor Shunaiman, using body modification techniques from the Age of the Giants as well as the powers of dark magic she had obtained from Shilen. Lilith took Human warriors and transformed them into something that could be called "undead" - they were not dead, being able to move around and fight, but they did not eat or breathe, nor did their bodies grow old or get sick. The Lilim actually could not die, as their names had been removed from the list of the dead. If one of them got killed in battle, he returned to the side of Shilen in the Underworld.

At that time the belief that one could attain immortality through martyrdom was prevalent in all religions, and since Lilith actually delivered on the promise, there was a never ending stream of volunteers who wanted to undergo the transformation into a Lilim soldier. The number of such zealots among Shilen's followers was so high that not to everyone of them could be given an opportunity to become a Lilim. This transformation process took some time, and priority was given to soldiers who had shown extraordinary achievement on the battlefield, to sorcerers who had attained great magical powers that could be used to bring about widespread destruction, and to assassins who personally delivered death to those whom the Goddess had marked out. From those among Shilen's devotees who fell not into these three categories, Lilith created a lesser tribe of undead, the so-called "Lith". While the Lilim formed the main fighting force in Lilith's campaigns against the Nephilim and Imperial Crusaders, the Lith were on guard duty in the Catacombs and Necropoli, also being responsible for upkeep and administration of the underground cities.
1) This infinitely repeatable quest which can be picked up at lvl 70 with Collector Gutenhagen at the southern edge of the Pavel Ruins. He asks you hunt all the Golems in the area and bring him 500 Broken Golem Fragments as proof. What Gutenhagen says about "Jackhammer Golems" is historical. Since the Freya update you have to kill lvl 72 Scout-type Golems No. 28, lvl 72 Cruel Pincer Golems and lvl 73 Drill Golems of Terror in the pits as well as lvl 72 Micro Scout Golems, lvl 72 Boom Golems, lvl 73 Guard Golems and lvl 73 Great Chaos Golems in and around the Laboratory buildings.

2) If you are only lvl 70, it will be better for you if you start in the pits south of the Dwarven encampment, the place marked with the quest pin. The Golems down there are all passive and non-social.

The lvl 72 Scout-type Golem No.28 in the screenshot above is a relatively straightforward monster. It attacks both physically and with single-target magic. If you have a baby pet like a Kookaburra or a Buffalo tag along, the Golem won't attack it, even when it is recharging resp. healing. If you have a Strider or Fenrir help you fight, however, you must take care to keep the aggression on you, otherwise your pet might occasionally get hit. For about every 3 or 4 kills you will get a Broken Golem Fragment.
When you have killed a passive basic form, there will with about 90% probability spawn an outwardly identical but aggressive "warrior type" Pincer Golem which has the same HP but is additionally weak to Melee Weapons and has a very weak P.Def., also giving the quest item but 1/3 less exp and having different drops and spoils. With a probability of about 10% the basic Pincer Golem will be replaced on its death with an aggressive "mage type", which again does not describe the properties of the Golem but those of the player. This variety has no weakness to any weapon and an extraordinarily strong P.Def. but also an extremely weak M.Def., giving almost the same exp as the basic type but different drops and spoils.

You have about one or two seconds between the death of the original Golem and the birth of the secondary form. Use that time to pick up any Herbs that might have been dropped. Unlike in the Laboratory itself, all monsters in the pits drop Herbs. As a solo hunter you absolutely need them.

The same principle goes for the lvl 73 Drill Golem of Terror. You have a passive basic form, which is weak to Bow and Crossbow Weapons, and then either a warrior type, which is weak to Melee Weapons, or a mage type with an extremely high P.Def. and which also attacks your pet first, while the other two types only attack the player character.

Very rarely you will find a passive "mage type" version (with extremely strong P.Def.) of the Cruel Pincer Golem or the Drill Golem of Terror as primary form. That variety does not spawn a second Golem, however.

A very peculiar monster is the Pavel Safety Device. It gives neither exp nor SP, but it drops a few hundred adena, Herbs, and above all Attribute Stones, albeit with a very low probability.

To make Stone farming not too easy, the Safety Device spawns one or two seconds after its death with about 80% probability one Drill Golem of Terror and one Cruel Pincer Golem, both aggressive. Use that short delay to pick up any Herbs, because when you have killed those two basic form Golems, they will then in turn spawn one secondary form each. In other words, you have to deal with four aggressive Golems, always two at a time. Among the secondary forms descended from the Pavel Safety Device there seem to be only the warrior types who are weak to melee weapons, none of the mage types with strong P.Def.

3) When you have 500 Broken Golem Fragments, return to Gutenhagen.

The Dwarf will give you a random S-Grade weapon recipe.
This quest is infinitely repeatable, so if you did not get the recipe you wanted, you can immediately pick up the quest again from Gutenhagen. Here all the possible rewards:

<br>

When Shilen went to war with the gods, the dragon Antharas, one of the creatures Gran Kain had sired with his daughter, was gravely injured. He flew down to the earth and found a safe place in the middle of what is now called Dragon Valley, in the Giran region. Antharas fell into a deep sleep for thousands of years as his injuries healed.

Out in the world, the Giants had in the meantime paid dearly for their hubris and the Humans had begun to rule the lands of the earth. Shunaiman, the leader of the Athena, an association of wizards and spellcasters, had united the regions of Elmore and Aden and founded the Elmoreden Empire. When faced with the crisis triggered by the Children of Shilen, a heterodox movement opposing the new Einhasad state religion, Shunaiman cast the Seven Seals to bind the forces of evil. These seals could only be controlled by Shunaiman's direct descendants, but to support them, an organization was formed: the Guardians of the Seal.

The members of that organization were fully aware that the Seven Seals might not be sufficient to restrain Shilen's creatures, especially Antharas, one of the most dangerous of them. Originally the people in the Giran area used to sacrifice virgins every year, believing that they could in this way appease the dragon. This was of course pure superstition; Antharas slept because he was still recovering from his injuries. A long-term solution had to be found. Therefore the Guardians of the Seal, along with the great sorcerer Dasparion, created in addition to the Seven Seals a magical force field to keep out intruders that might wake up the sleeping beast, requesting an Audience with the Land Dragon. From then on, entrance into Antharas' Nest was only possible through the so-called "Heart of Warding", a doorway through the force field that opened only to those who carried a Portal Stone.

Seventeen Guardians participated in the sealing of Antharas: seven Humans, three Dark Elf witches, five Dwarven artisans and two Orc soldiers. The Dwarves formed the Gray Pillar Guild and taught generations of guild members how to guard and look after the pillar, located at the bottom of the Mithril Mines, that supported the force field. The three Dark Elves - Shyslassys, Gorr and Baraham - were sisters. They consumed runestones, which also supported the force field, hiding them in their bodies, but in the process taking on the appearance of evil, Medusa-like creatures. Of the seven Humans, three sold their souls to Dasparion to achieve immortality. They turned into somewhat repulsive half-skeletons (immortal is not far from undead) and became the "Watchmen of the Land Dragon". The other four Humans passed on the duty of watching Antharas to their children, and of course there were also descendants of the other seventeen original Guardians: Gabrielle in the Town of Giran, Orc Prefect Chakiris in Hunters Village, Dark Elf Magister Kaiena in the Ivory Tower, Master Kendra in the Town of Aden and High Priest Orven, also in Aden.

Things went as they always go. Two agents of the Children of Shilen, Kash from the Town of Dion and Martien from Giran, induced well-meaning adventurers to kill Shyslassys, Gorr and Baraham, thus severely weakening the force field binding Antharas. Then the Queen of the Succubi found her way into the Mithril Mines and tried to destroy the Gray Pillar, collapsing the force field and freeing the Land Dragon. Fortunately Champion Raldo, a supporter of the Guardians, managed to foil that plan.

Nevertheless, some of the Succubi escaped to the Abandoned Coal Mine where they quickly elected a new Queen and are now plotting again to free the dragon. This time they are attempting to use an Abyssal Jewel to absorb the magical force of the pillar, thus nullifying the field. The only way to avert this is to destroy all Abyssal Jewels existing in the world. (There is one near the Sea of Spores, one at the northwestern end of the Windy Hill mountain chain and one directly in front of Antharas' lair). Blacksmith Helton from Oren and Warehouse Chief Moke from Gludin Village, although belonging to other guilds, have both been recruited and trained by Elder Filaur of the Gray Pillar Guild to be Guardians of the Seal. Together with Watchman Gilmore they have taken it upon themselves to find adventurers who are willing to destroy the Abyssal Jewels, bringing back fragments of the Jewels as well as items of the monsters guarding them as proof. Helton, Moke and Gilmore will then send the fragments to Elder Filaur so that he can irretrievably destroy them in the Blast Furnace of Supremacy.
1) This quest can be picked up at lvl 50 from Gabrielle in the Town of Giran. For "Freya" it is recommened that even support classes should not attempt participating in an Antharas raid before they have reached lvl 80. And in "Freya" you should do this quest only in a full 9 person party (see below, step 10).

When you strike up a conversation with her, Gabrielle gives you the history of how Antharas is kept sealed and sends you to visit several other people, all of them Guardians of the Seal who will have tasks for you.
2) You can do these in any order but I tried not to do a lot of porting. In Hunters Village, Prefect Chakiris is in the Orc Guild, he asks you to kill Kranrot and Hamrut on the Forsaken Plains.

6) Here are the locations of all the mobs. The quest item drop is 100% or close to it on everything, though it may take a few Blood Queens to generate the Remains of the Sacrificed. The Blood Queens also spawn around Antharas' Lair but since you're already in Aden there's no point in porting all the way to Giran.
Killing the Warriors and Shamans will spawn Quest Monsters called Harit Lizardman Zealots, about 4 of them.

Arachne ("Spiders") are truly impressive Genesis Creatures, remnants from the dawn of time. They have far more self-awareness and intelligence than the Cruma, but never developed a complex society like the Giants, their biggest societal unit being the "household". Such an Arachne household consists of a "mother", like for example Orfen in the Sea of Spores, who is gathering around her "handmaidens" like the Riba moths and "retainers" like the Raikel crabs.

Apart from Orfen, another famous Arachne is her elder sister Nerupa, who is living beneath the Mother Tree near Elven Village. Then there was Harnea who hid the Shilen Temple at Dark Elven Village from the eyes of enemies with curtain of silvery spider webs she had spun.

Generally speaking, Arachne are rather benevolent creatures. Even Orfen, who now attacks anybody that comes too close, had originally tried to stop the war between Elves and Humans and had only turned aggressive after she was severely wounded and, after a long sleep, witnessed the devastation those two races had wreaked on the forest that was her home.

1) This infinitely repeatable quest, which can be picked up at lvl 50, starts in the in the Blacksmith Shop of Aden with Blacksmith Wilbert. The quest is pretty simple - hunt certain mobs to get Spirit Beads and come back to play a game.

2) Wilbert can give a long explanation of the game and how to play, but you really don't need to know any of that. You have no control over the outcome of each match, only whether or not you continue if you win to get higher prizes.

The following is the mob list you can hunt, which spans a decent amount of levels.

The Blacksmith also lists the rewards so you know right away what you'd looking at.

3) So to play all you need to do is hunt from the list of mobs until you get 50 Spirit Beads. The drop rate is pretty decent, one Spirit Bead for almost every other kill. Then you tell him you want to play and just keep clicking to pull a card until he tells you whether you won or lost. If you lost, you get nothing. If you win, you can take the reward or continue to play, and if you win again you can choose to take the next highest level prize. If you lose at any level, you get nothing. Blacksmith Wilbert even gives you an opportunity to practise with 1 Spirit Bead.

Emboldened by your win you can then try a real game with 50 Spirit Beads.
