Cronos

Elder Cronos is a scholar who was already old when the Elmoreden Empire was founded. Contrary to popular belief, the long life span of Elves and Dark Elves is not an inherited racial trait but based on a set of skills and daily observances that can be learned by anybody with the right frame of mind. Cronos' dark counterpart, the wizard Dasparion, had learned the secret of immortality from the breakaway group which became later known as Dark Elves. Elder Cronos, on the other hand, is firmly rooted on the "white side", so it would be a good hypothesis that he has acquired the knowledge about how to achieve a long life from the Elves.
Cronos now lives a reclusive life in Hunters Village. He used to have assistants, teaching them some of the things he knows about magic. Although he is a rather arrogant person, a character trait that tends to come with high age, the people working for Cronos did greatly benefit from associating with the old scholar. Dieter, for example, a former errand boy of Cronos, is now Magister in the Magic Guild at Giran, teaching in turn new skills to young mages.
Cronos' greatest feat is the transcription of Maphr's Tablet he made, securing for posterity the knowledge about Absolute Geometry contained thereon. Absolute Geometry is the mathematical basis for the theory of moving objects, astronomy, navigation and all engineering, he who truly understands Absolute Geometry can control the world. The original Tablet of Maphr was written in the language of the Giants and therefore of no use to anybody except a small circle of scholars. About 100 years ago, Cronos transcribed a part of the text into modern language and called the resulting book "The Scriptures of Knowledge". That would be of far greater interest to people striving for power and world domination. Therefore Cronos makes sure that the "Scriptures of Knowledge" are kept safe and don't fall into the wrong hands. Since the book has six chapters which are meaningless individually, the risk is limited. The book had been stolen about 20 years ago, but even though a young wizard undergoing the Trial of the Scholar could recover most of it recently, two of the six chapters, the first and the last, were not found again. So the danger of anybody making use of Maphr's knowledge is nil. Actually Cronos knows that the missing two chapters are kept by Dasparion, but he has no inclination to get them back, thus ensuring that the parts of the book remain scattered.
After that spot of trouble with the "Scriptures of Knowledge", Cronos shifted the focus of his research to the Fairies living in the Enchanted Valley north of Hunters Village. Fairies are little, winged creatures who could originally be found in the forests all over Aden, living in a sort of symbiotic relationship with the Elves. During the time of the Elmoreden Empire they were hunted almost to extinction for the Fairy Dust, a fine powder which accumulates on their wings and was said to have miraculous powers, making women beautiful and men strong. Finally the Fairies emigrated to what is now known as "Enchanted Valley", living hidden in the deep crevasses there, but they still have a great affinity for the Elves. Cronos, who can rightfully claim to be an ancient Elvenfriend, succeeded in establishing contact with the Fairies. Especially with Fairy Mimyu, who is living in the northern part of the valley complex, a kind of friendship evolved.
